Background
I am a qualified psychotherapist, having worked in the field of therapy for over 15 years. Before starting training as a psychotherapist, I worked as a teacher. I have taught in Primary and Special schools for 25 years in Britain and Ireland.
Training
I began training as a psychotherapist in 1991, first with the Stockton Institute of Psychotherapy, and then later with Mary Cox in The Lake District.
In 1997 I was one of the founding members of the Edinburgh Psychotherapy and Counselling Centre. The centre initially provided training and therapy. Later it became more holistic in terms of the range of services available.
Transactional Analysis
Since moving to Ireland in 2000, I have established a successful counselling practice in the South-East. My main psychotherapy model is Transactional Analysis, a humanistic approach emphasizing the importance of the client-therapist relationship, and encompassing the philosophy that people can change certain aspects of their behaviour patterns and lead more fulfilling lives.
The core principles of my psychotherapy approach are open and honest communication, mutual respect, and agreeing on how we are going to work together.
Group Work
In addition to my therapy practice, I tutor adult evening classes and facilitate personal development groups.
For several years I was a co-facilitator of Wexford MEND (Men Ending Violence). This program involved helping men to take responsibility for, and stop, domestic abuse and violence.
